MANY REPAIR CONTROL VALVES BUT WILL SHY AWAY FROM REGULATORS
GREAT WESTERN VALVE DOES IT ALL
SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2025 - At Great Western Valve, we understand that reliability, precision, and safety are non-negotiable in the oil and gas industry. Repairs can be needed at a moment’s notice to maintain operations, and Great Western Valve is here to provide solutions that keep critical systems running. Great Western Valve provides more than just a fixed valve, we provide peace of mind with our 24/7 on-call service, emergency repairs, in-shop repairs, turnarounds, and field service—all for control valves, pipeline valves, actuation, safety relief valves, and more. Among our specialized offerings, regulator valve repairs stand out as a vital service for maintaining optimal control and efficiency in demanding circumstances.
Great Western Valve has proven our expertise with regulator valves. Our team repairs hundreds of regulator valves each year and we bring precision and expertise to every repair, ensuring reliable performance in even the most demanding environments. We pride ourselves on our specialized skills and responsiveness. You can rely on Great Western Valve to become your dedicated Regulator Valve repair center as we have several experienced regulator technicians on our teams—one is Joey Ramos at our Houston Service Center.
Joey Ramos joined Great Western Valve in May of 2025 with eight years of experience working with regulator valves and a total of twelve years of experience working on valves in general. We are excited to have him on the team. When asked about the difference between repairing a control valve and a regulator, Joey shared that regulator valves are a more specialized skill as they have a smaller window of repair space, special trim, and a low tolerance to damage. Whereas other control valves have positioners, regulators instead have pilots that direct the pressure throughout the diaphragm.
Joey says the most common repair made on regulator valves at the Houston Service Center is skim-cutting warped trim that has become distorted due to pressure, differing temperature, and trash collecting on the trim–to which Joey recommends including an inline filter to minimize damage. Before and after every regulator is repaired, our Great Western Valve QC Manager—Edgar Riascos, can be found taking precise measurements to ensure the valve trim is not “out of round.”
In every instance, repairs and maintenance are vital in maintaining safe, stable, and operable plants and units. Because regulators can be intolerable, Joey recommends routine maintenance every 1-2 years depending on the type of regulators, plant, and usage. If plants do not maintain regulators on a regular basis, damage can cost lots of money and cause catastrophic failures. Most of the regulators Great Western Valve repairs operate on gas or light liquid services —some types commonly being Pressure Reducing, Blanket Gas Regulators, and Back-Pressure reducing. Often, natural gas regulators can be utilized to run generators, compressors, can run an entire unit, and sometimes can feed the whole plant—dependent on size. While Great Western Valve most commonly repairs Fisher, Groth, and Watson McDaniel regulators, we are equipped to service any type and any manufacturer.
With every valve we repair at Great Western Valve, customers will be provided with valve repair reports—which include before and after photos, a detailed description and traceability of parts and materials used, all repair steps taken, test reports, and detailed specifications. These reports will be accessible online 24/7 via our ValveSpecs ™ web portal once an order is completed, shipped, and finalized.
